I. The History of the Network 147
Sometime back in 1984/5, a board called Remark changed over
from RBBS to Fido much to the then dismay of this author.
The transition heralded the FidoNet arrival into OKC. This
board is 147/1. Two more boards joined, Bob Ripley of The
Missing Link East (147/2), and Clarence Wormley of Fido of
Moore (147/3). A meeting was held between these three boards
and an incoming Fido's Paws (147/4). This was the
beginning of the first official network for FidoNet in
Oklahoma City. Paws became Legal Beagle under Vic Hill as
Kurt Vanderwater became Land Ho (147/5) and became the National
LAN/etc Coordinator. David Kent floated up and down with Fido
of Norman (147/6). John Knox came on board with American Fido
(147/7) and Denny Myers joined in as The Missing Link West (147/8).
An inner network was formed between 147/2, 4, and 8 as the
Missing Link Network. It was among these three boards that
the first local EchoMail system ran, started by 147/4, and
made available to all users of the three systems. The
network grew by leaps and bounds, too many people, and too
many names to mention. The following represent some of the
larger to this author:
- John Roberts at DarkStar (147/14) became the network's
first EchoMail Coordinator.
- John Fordenbacher on Midwest MIDI (147/6) was the fourth
Network Coordinator.
- John Knox was the second with Vic Hill being the third and
John Roberts, the fifth.
- Mark Grennan who has served as the Region 19 Coordinator,
the first Net 147 Coordinator, and the IFNA Vice-President.
